Purpose
The purpose of Clubs and Organizations is to serve as vehicles for development of students’ personality, character and interest. Each student is encouraged to investigate and participate in those clubs and organizations that are of interest to him/her.
Formation and Creation
In order for a club or organization to be recognized by the SGA, it must have a character statement listing its purpose, objectives, current officers, and members.
Each club and/or organization must have a clearly stated mission that encompasses the fundamental ideals of Mount Saint Mary's University.
The club is responsible for providing the SGA with a defined structure that serves not only the interest of its participants, but the interests of the Mount community as a whole. This will be done with a group of leaders (President, Vice President, etc) and a distinct set of goals.
A Club Council will formally exist, consisting of the SGA Chairperson or Clubs and Organizations, and the Presidents of all campus clubs, to provide a forum of discussion and to stimulate ideas for all campus organizations. The primary goal of the Council is to promote joint projects which will serve the interests of the groups and the entire Mount Saint Mary's community.
The SGA has sole authority to revoke the characters of any organization that does not meet these requirements.
The Administration is the sole decider on the basis of recognition.
Funding
Clubs are responsible for providing their own necessary funds, but the SGA will subsidize money through budgetary process.
The Budget Board Policies are the pillar of the process. These policies are subject to change according to the Budget Board which shall consist of:
- SGA President
- Vice President
- President of Campus Activities
- Secretary
- Treasurer
- Chair for Clubs and Organizations.
These changes can be made on the basis of budget cuts, and other necessary circumstances. Please refer to the Budget Board Policies.
We, the undersigned, do hereby agree to the above Constitution of the Mount Saint Mary's Student Government Association, and in so doing make it an official document.
