News >> DISC GOLF COMES TO THE MOUNT!!

Ching!! That’s the sound you’ll hear as the disc hits against the chains and comes to rest into the bottom of the basket. No need for tee times, balls, clubs or greens fees! Disc golf is very similar to ball golf. The object is to shoot the lowest score by making it to the basket (hole) in the least amount of strokes. All you need is a disc (or Frisbee) and the desire to have a good time outdoors. See map of course and rules below.

Welcome to Recreational Services at Mount St. Mary's University and Seminary. We strive to meet the recreational needs of everyone who comes through our doors. If you want to walk the track, play some racquetball, shoot some hoops or work out in the weight room or cardio room, the ARCC is the place for you! Should you have any questions, please call 301-447-5290.

The ARCC recently activated an information line dedicated to delayed openings or closings due to bad weather. This would include any cancellations of fitness and swim classes. For weather-related information please call 301-447-7424 (campus extension 7424).

The Knott Athletic Recreation Convocation Complex (ARCC)
The ARCC is a 105,000 square foot facility used for fitness and recreation, intercollegiate athletics, entertainment and cultural events. Included is the Knott Arena which features a main arena/convocation center with a seating capacity of 3500 for basketball and up to 5000 for other events. The ARCC also contains the John J. Dillon Field House which has four multipurpose basketball, tennis, volleyball and badminton courts and a jogging track. In addition to the Arena and Field House, the facility contains a 25-meter swimming pool; four racquetball/wallyball courts; a weight room and cardio room; an aerobics room; trainer's room; student and faculty locker rooms; saunas; varsity and intramural issue areas; seminar and conference rooms; and offices for the Athletic and Recreational Services Departments.

Informal Recreation
Equipment may be signed out for the following sports: volleyball, football, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey, street hockey, racquetball, handball, wallyball, Frisbee® and badminton. A Mount card will be held by ARCC personnel when equipment is borrowed from the intramural issue and control room or when play is reserved on racquetball/handball, tennis and volleyball courts. A Mount card must also be presented to get a locker or towel. All equipment must be returned the same day unless special permission has been granted.

Intramural Sports
During the school year, an intramural sports program is offered to both men and women under the supervision of the Director of Recreational Services. The Coordinator of Intramurals and Club Sports will be directly involved with organizing these activities. Many different sports and activities are sponsored by the intramural office. Events are planned with students' interests in mind. Men-only, women-only and co-rec activities are available. Fall semester activities include: Flag Football, Co-Rec Softball, 2-on-2 Volleyball, Tennis, Racquetball, Co-Rec Soccer, Turkey Trot, and the Turkey Classic Basketball Tournament. Spring semester activities include: Hot Shot Basketball, 3-on-3 Basketball, All Star Basketball, Racquetball, Tennis, Softball, Swimming, 4-on-4 Outdoor Basketball, Mount Olympics, and the Last Bash Softball Tournament. A forfeit fee for all teams sports is refundable at the end of the season if the team forfeits no more than one game during the regular season.

Extramural Sports
As an extension of the intramural program, student teams can participate in various activities that are held at local colleges and universities. In the past, we have traveled to participate in flag football, volleyball, basketball, and softball. The Mount has hosted extramurals in flag football and basketball.

Fitness / Group Exercise
Fitness classes are offered for a small fee throughout the academic year. Some of the class formats offered are Kickboxing, Resist-A-Ball, Step, Toning and Yoga.

Aquatics
Several water fitness classes are offered for a small fee throughout the year. Classes include Arthritis Aquatics, Aquatics in Motion, Deep Water Aerobics and Turbo Tone & Burn. Classes in lifeguarding, CPR and water safety instruction will be offered throughout the year. Swimming lessons are offered, beginning at six months of age to adulthood, in group, private and semi-private sessions.

Club Sports
The following club sports are open for student participation; Dance Club, Men's Rugby, Women's Rugby, Equestrian, Ice Hockey, and Swimming.
