(Not to be interpreted as Homeland Security’s Code Red)

Revised: 3/2003

Condition Red indicates that a severe risk to the safety of our campus community exists; it will trigger the implementation of a set of protective measures. The protective measures for a Condition Red situation are not intended for substantial periods of time, i.e., we see them in effect for no more than three days.

Protective Measures

I.                   Safety and Security

A.     The university will suspend normal working operations until the office of public safety informs the campus that conditions are stable.

B.     The university will cancel any planned curricular and/or co-curricular activities until the office of public safety informs us that we can return to them.

C.     For their safety, we encourage students, faculty, administrators and staff to remain on campus and inside until more information on the alert is available

D.     Resident students and seminarians will be instructed to return to their campus rooms and apartments.

E.      The campus life staff will identify residents who are present and continue to monitor the list throughout the alert.

F.      The Dean of Students at the seminary will initiate a similar procedure to account for the seminarians.

G.     Commuter students and faculty, administrators, and staff who choose not to stay in their work areas will be instructed to go to Patriot Hall.

H.     The north and south gates will be locked. All traffic in and out of the college will be monitored through the front entrance.

I.        If conditions permit, the president will authorize a community prayer service in the chapel.

II.                Communications

A.     Students, faculty, administrators, and staff are encouraged to monitor television and radio for national information.

B.     Students, faculty, administrators, and staff are encouraged to monitor e-mail and the college home page for community announcements.

C.     The Campus Life staff will serve as a resource of information for students about housing issues, updates on the alert status and address personal request/needs as possible.

D.     The campus community will work to keep communication flowing during this time.

III.             Alert Continuation

A.     Faculty , administration, staff, and students will not leave sheltered areas until public safety officials say it is safe to do so.

B.     Everyone will be encouraged to conserve water during the Condition Red.

C.     Faculty , administrators, staff, and students are asked to maintain sanitary conditions as effectively as possible during the Condition Red.
