Here are a few suggestions to help your son or daughter in their career planning.
Encourage your student to:
- explore various majors that are of interest and in which he/she has the academic skills to successfully complete
- visit the Career Center early in his/her academic career to map out a personalized career plan. See the Career Action Plan
- obtain career-related work experience before graduation. The internship page explains how to get started.
- network with people in various career fields.
- develop a resume and interviewing techniques. The Career Center offers workshops, critiques resumes, and conducts mock interviews.
- participate in job, internship and graduate school fairs, on-campus recruiting and other career related events.
