Formation Program
To accomplish its important mission of forming men for the priesthood, Mount St. Mary’s Seminary has four major goals:
  1. To provide solid human formation so that seminarians are balanced men, affectively mature, capable of relating well to others, of bearing the weight of pastoral responsibilities, and of living celibacy in a healthy manner.
  2. To provide solid spiritual formation so that seminarians learn to live in intimate communion with God, to seek Christ in faithful meditation on the word of God and in active participation in the sacred mysteries of the Church, especially the Eucharist, Penance, and the Liturgy of the Hours, and to love and reverence the Blessed Virgin Mary.
  3. To provide solid intellectual formation so that seminarians grasp the Catholic intellectual tradition, are able to proclaim and teach the Gospel of Christ and to communicate the mystery of God to people today, and are equipped for the continuing pursuit of truth.
  4. To provide solid pastoral formation so that seminarians learn to be shepherds imbued with the charity of Christ, filled with a missionary spirit, possessing pastoral competence and pastoral skills, especially through experiences in various ministries, including teaching, health care, and parish apostolates, developing a special loving commitment to the weak and vulnerable, the sick and dying, the poor and outcast, immigrants and the oppressed.
