DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
Ten courses (30 credits) are required for the M.A. degree in Liberal Studies.
Two Foundations Courses (500 level) 6 credits
Three Western Traditions Electives (600 level) 9 credits
Three Focus Seminars (700 level) 9 credits
Two Thesis Courses (800 level) 6 credits
(1) At the 500 Level: Two Foundations Courses for 6 Credits
LIST 500 Perspectives on the Liberal Studies (3 credits)
LIST 501 Contemporary Ethics (3 credits)
(2) At the 600 Level: Three Western Traditions Courses for 9 Credits
Each course at this level is interdisciplinary by design and addresses various topics-the arts, sacred scriptures, music, history, literature, theology, philosophy, etc. Each course encourages students to explore intellectual, cultural and creative traditions of the West. One or more sections at this level will be offered each term.

(3) At the 700 Level: Three Focus Seminars for 9 Credits
In these seminars, students apply the perspective of liberal learning. Each seminar at this level is devoted to a topic that invites deeper, multidisciplinary inquiry and analysis of issues impacting the 21 st century. Insofar as possible, seminar topics in any given term will reflect shared interests among program candidates with the intention of complementing their work at the next (800) level. One or more seminars will be offered each term. Possible Focus Seminars include:

LIST 750 Gospel of Mark: Interpreting the Scriptures in Today's World (3 credits)
(4) At the 800 Level: Two Thesis Courses for 6 Credits
Guided by a mentor, the candidate completes the degree program by writing a thesis and defending it publicly before a panel of examiners.
